My Favourite Asana (This Week!)
Forward Fold Toe Hold
My favourite Asana changes weekly, as you may be able to tell from the post title!
This week however, the winner by a long way is the Forward Fold Toe Hold.
This asana, or posture, is perfect for adding to the middle of your practice. It is still a very strong stretch, you should feel it in your hamstrings and booty, but it’s also a way to regather yourself mid yoga.
Many people believe that yogi’s need to be continuously bending themselves into odd shapes in the name of the discipline, but the truth is that, whilst all of those postures have incredible benefits, the more basic asanas have just as many benefits too.
I love to relax into the forward fold toe hold, to really let my head and neck relax and loosen my shoulders before the next round of shapes. I love to feel the energy still working through my body, so that I know it is a pause, not a rest, and feel the active muscles strengthening (and often burning).
If you are unable to grab your toes on your first attempt, do not be disheartened, that a long way down for a lot of people! Aim for your mid calves or maybe even your knees and work down as you feel more able.
Why not give it a try!
